Description

StormGeo is actively seeking a qualified Tropical Forecasting meteorologist for their global Tropical Cyclone Forecasting Team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will possess a broad knowledge of Tropical Cyclone analysis techniques, as well as practical experience in forecasting movement and intensity of developing and existing Tropical Cyclones.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the TropicsWatch Manager, the Tropical Meteorologist is responsible for analyzing disturbances and producing forecast advisories and site-specific information related to tropical cyclone activity around the world. This is accomplished using a mix of personal experience and both in-house and publically available tools to determine risk of impact from a variety of threats posed by tropical cyclones, including winds, heavy rain / freshwater flooding and storm surge. Working as our global support team for tropical cyclones, the meteorologist works in conjunction with our global forecast centers in Europe and the Middle East to ensure coverage for all cyclones worldwide. This position is an operational forecasting position, which requires working rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • M.S. degree in Meteorology, or a B.S. in Meteorology (or equivalent Military experience) plus 5+ years of tropical weather forecasting experience.
  • Must have level of proficiency with Windows PC software including Microsoft Office.
  • Linux and GARP/GEMPAK and Mac proficiency is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to produce daily, storm-specific, and other videos in our studio.
  • This position requires a rotating shift schedule.
  • Self-confident, yet able to collaborate and/or accept change in a collegial manner where differences of opinion exist.
  • Must be well-organized and able to effectively prioritize tasks and activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills are a must. Will be required to provide client briefings via phone calls, conference call, and online meetings. May occasionally present research work at meteorological conferences.
