He was speaking to Seatrade Maritime News as the Bergen-based company prepared for today’s launch of s-Suite, a three-module software and services package providing voyage planning, weather services and fleet performance management.
With s-Suite, StormGeo has integrated and enhanced existing modules that use past data, algorithms and artificial intelligence to update constantly in real-time. “We have at least 3,000 new data sets every day,” Sørensen revealed, “which provide greater accuracy as time goes on.”
S-Suite’s principal aim, he explained, is to integrate ship and shore personnel and provide them with the same data at the same time, enabling the real-time optimisation of technical and commercial factors for the two sets of staff. StormGeo’s product suite has been designed to provide the same data and decision-making capabilities to small shipowners with just a few ships, as large ones with big fleets and possibly in-house performance management systems of their own.
A large shipowner might have 30 ships operating in the Atlantic on any one day, Sørensen said. StormGeo typically has 900. The company’s data, processed on “fantastic software systems”, are supported by carefully chosen ex-seagoing experts, based ashore in the company’s eight Fleet Performance Centers in key maritime hubs. They are available 24/7, providing advice and data analysis to ensure optimal ship and fleet performance.
S-Suite is available as an integrated portfolio of software or in modular form. More than 12,000 ships use StormGeo software or services for navigational planning, route optimisation, weather routeing and fleet performance. The company routes 65,000 voyages a year and claims savings of almost 1m tonnes of fuel and about 3m tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
